The Africa richest man, Aliko Dangote builds N2bn medical facilities in Kano a 1000-bed capacity hospital.
Worried by the condition of the health sector in the country, the Dangote Foundation yesterday (Tuesday), in Kano state laid the foundation of N2b health care facilities which have been described as one of Africa’ most ambitious health facilities.
The health facilities will see Dangote Foundation coughing out N2billion for the project.
This is even as President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote disclosed that he was planning to build the world’s best hospital in Kano State.
He said his plan to build world’s best hospital will stop the medical tourism abroad which has cost Nigeria billions of naira.
The medical facilities named Mariya Sanusi Dantata Ultramodern Theatre Complex and a diagnostic laboratory, are situated within the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony, Chairman of the Dangote Foundation Alhaji Aliko Dangote said the gesture is meant to support government’s efforts in achieving a sound health programme for its people, adding that it is only a healthy people that can contribute meaningfully in growing the economy. “It is not just about creating a modern, new sorely needed medical facility in this great city of ours. It is about our broader commitment to systematically improving the health and well-being which is one of our areas of focus. We believe that every Nigerian has a right to quality healthcare.
We also believe that it is our collective duty to rally our resources to improve health infrastructure, support the development of health care professionals and improve preventive health measures in Nigeria,” he said.He added: “Today we are pleased to be able to stand with the Governor as he lays the foundation stone for the 5-storey ultramodern theatre complex.”Speaking, Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso said the new facilities will eliminate the need to travel out of the country.
He commended the Dangote Foundation for its numerous interventions in Kano.Speaking at the foundation laying ceremony, CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi said medical tourism cost Nigeria about N80billion annually.He called on well to do Nigerians to emulate Aliko Dangote philanthropic spirit. Alhaji Dangote who is rated Africa’s richest person penultimate week doled out N10billion to empower Nigerian women, an exercise that has been hailed as timely given the menace of insecurity that has created thousands of widows and orphans in the Northern part of the country.
