Staying Healthy After 40 with all the mid-life crises.

1. Know your numbers
Age 40 is a good time to look into your numbers for blood pressure, cholesterol levels
, blood sugar and body weight. "People need to know what their cholesterol level is and if they haven't checked before age 40, they should," Zoghbi said.
When you visit a pharmacy, take time to get your blood pressure measured, and visit your doctor to get a simple blood sugar test, he suggested. Knowing these numbers will help you and your doctor identify potentially hidden disease risk-factors.
For example, people with higher blood pressure are at higher risk of heart disease, stroke and kidney failure, Zoghbi said.
2. Explore your family history
During your fifth decade, it's time to look carefully at your family tree to find out if your genetics increase your risks for diseases such as cancer or heart disease. "Once you hit 40, when things go wrong, you have to think of the C-word and that's cancer, cause you're no longer a kid," Fryhofer said. "That's a good time to make sure you understand your family history."
For example, those with a family history of colon cancer may want to get a colonoscopy at age 40, instead of waiting until age 50, Fryhofer said.
The same goes with heart disease: a calcium test can help determine whether your arteries are starting to harden, and if you need major lifestyle changes or medications. "People get by with a lot until they hit 40, but then when you hit 40, it's got to be a little bit about you. It can't be just worrying about everybody else," she said.
3. Muscle up
Starting at age 40, we lose about 1 percent of muscle mass per year.
So people can benefit from incorporating weight-bearing exercises, along with cardiovascular exercise, into a weekly physical activity plan, Mangieri said. "Even if it's using cans of soup to do some bicep curls — it doesn't have to be in a gym, it just needs to be some sort of resistance training," Mangieri said.
As we age, we also become less flexible. Mangieri suggested adding yoga or Pilates, which can help improve flexibility, core strength, balance and range of motion. "If we can maintain our muscle mass and maintain our strength, then as we get older, we can continue to do the things we enjoy doing," Mangieri said.
4. Fiber is your friend
The days of gorging without gaining weight are over. And as your metabolism slows around age 40, eating fewer calories can boost health. But you should also make sure to get adequate fiber and fluids, Mangieri said.
"We want to make sure the calories that are decreasing come from things like sweets, but we keep those high-fiber foods in the diet, and we also make sure we meet our fluid needs. That's really important," Mangieri said. "Make sure that our daily eating plan is packed full of nutrient-dense food, like lean protein, fruits and vegetables and low-fat dairy and whole grains.
"Those items are important through all the stages of life, but as we get older, we want to make sure we maintain those high-nutrient foods even though our caloric needs are less," Mangieri said.
5. Consider the big picture of your lifestyle
Dr. Elizabeth Jackson, an assistant professor at the University of Michigan emphasized the difference that a generally healthy lifestyle can have on preventing heart attacks and strokes.
For cardiovascular events, "we know that the risk increases with age, and you can't get younger. There's no cure for getting older," Jackson said.
But losing the spare tire around your middle could help you not only fit into your clothing, but reduce the risk for heart disease, diabetes and vascular diseases. "When you think of lifestyle modifications, there's a lot of bang for your buck in all different factors," Jackson said.
Doing regular physical activity, reducing stress levels, maintaining a healthy weight and a eating a diet high in fruits, vegetables and polyunsaturated fats all "help keep our blood vessels healthy," Jackson said. "And that keeps our heart healthy, that keeps our brains healthy, and it really helps us prevent that waistline increasing. An investment in healthy lifestyle will pay off through every subsequent decade," she said.
6. Butt out
Age 40 should include a reality check for smokers.
"If you're a smoker, it's time to take this seriously and stop it by whichever way, shape or form. Get some help," Zoghbi said.
Quitting "is not easy, but believe me, it will decrease the incidence of everything bad that you can think of, from heart attacks [to] heart disease, stroke, kidney failure as well as lung cancer and lung disease," he said.
7. Thyroid check
People who feel worn out, and are gaining weight and whose hair and skin have lost their luster, may consider getting their thyroids checked. This neck gland helps control energy levels and regulates hormones, and 40 is a time "when thyroid disease can show its face," Fryhofer said.
A test can determine if your thyroid is functioning as it should, she said. An underactive thyroid is primarily results from genetic condition causes, but you can stave off its complications with prescription medications, Fryhofer said.

Be A Health Freak!

It's time to take your health seriously.

A health freak is someone who is extremely serious or obsessed with health. Someone who is very concerned about eating healthy, exercising, taking vitamins, and living well.

Call me a freak, but once you're no longer a teenager(i.e. above 19), you should watch what you eat, when you eat and how you eat what eat.

Whatever you eat now will show up when you are old; either has diabetes, cancer, tumor or healthy life, normal blood pressure, strong etc such as the case may be.

Anytime you eat junk....you should get worried and change. Feed voraciously on Fruits, Vegetables, Protein, a bit of Carbohydrates.

Regular exercise doesn't have to cost you your whole life savings, a walk down the street is good for you.

Change your health! Change your life!!

Useful Tips.
  • Fruits and vegetables are life-savers
  • Check your blood-pressure yourself(most pharmacy shops do this for free)
  • Take a 15minutes walk daily, if you can
  • Drink 8 glasses of water daily
  • Take a dance class
  • Pray often
  • Use this app and get useful information about your body-- WEBMD
  • Watch comedy or anything that makes you laugh often(laughter is a good medicine for the soul)
Be good to your body...don't ignore the signs.

Dos and Don'ts of Finding Your Body's Perfect Jeans

If You're Bottom-Heavy...

Do break out of the boot-cut rut with a style that's more fitted below. Just don't go too narrow; Margaret Gelly, 24, has a good balance here.
Don't wear anything too high-waisted or too low. For you, jeans that sit at your natural waist flatter best.

If You're an Hourglass...

Do choose a cropped jacket to show off the slimmest part of your figure: your waist!
Don't pick jeans so long they totally cover your foot; Tiffany Savion, 34, has hers just right.

If You're Long-Waisted...

Do add a little volume up top—like Petra Unterthiner, 25, did with this flowy blouse—if you're sporting a tight-fitting toothpick pair.
Don't be afraid to wear denim-on-denim. It still works!

If You're Petite...

Do keep things simple. A dark matchstick cut gives Tiffany Baker, 27, the illusion of longer legs. Her navy top peeking out under her floral tank elongates too.
Don't think you have to wear heels. This narrow ankle is perfect with cute flats.

Make Healthy choices.

The moment you are 20 years and more; you should make the best choice at what you eat.

Eat at least 5 servings of vegetables and fruits each day.
  • Does “five” sound like a lot? Serving sizes are actually smaller than you might think!
    • One medium piece of fruit
    • ¼ cup of dried fruit
    • ½ cup chopped, canned or frozen fruit
    • 6 oz of 100% fruit or vegetable juice
    • ½ cup chopped, canned or frozen vegetables
    • 1 cup of leafy greens
  • Focus on fruits and veggies that have the most color. They’re generally the most nutritious.
Choose whole grains over processed (refined) grains and sugars.
  • Choose whole-grain rice, bread, pasta and cereals.
  • Not sure if it’s whole grain?  Look for “whole wheat” or another whole grain as the first ingredient on the label.
  • Limit consumption of refined carbohydrates, including pastries, sweetened cereals, soft drinks and other foods high in sugar. .
Substitute healthier fats for not-so-healthy fats
  • Choose monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats such as olive oil, canola oil and peanut oil.
  • Avoid trans fats, found in many margarines and baked goods.
  • Limit your intake of saturated fats and cholesterol found in meats and dairy products.
    • Select lean cuts of meat (look for “round” or “loin”).
    • Trim excess fat from meats.
    • Choose low-fat and fat-free dairy products.
    • Choose poultry, fish and beans as alternatives to beef, lamb and pork.
  • Add avocados and nuts to your diet. (These are high in healthy fats, but also high in calories, so don’t go overboard!)
Dining Portion Sizes
  • Eating out? Restaurant portions are frequently two to three times larger than normal portions. Remember these tips next time you dine out:
    • Split an entrée with a friend or save half of it for lunch the next day.
    • Have an appetizer and salad or soup as your main course.
  • At home, serve appropriate portion sizes, and store the rest for leftovers. Avoid eating directly out of a bag or carton. Think about buying foods packaged in individual serving sizes to help you control portions. Serve dinner on your smaller salad plates instead of your dinner plates!
Watch Your Portion Sizes
No doubt about it – our portion sizes are getting bigger and bigger, and unfortunately, so are our waistlines. Beware of portion distortion, and help trim down the number of calories you eat each day.
  • Use these visuals to help you judge what a normal portion size is:
    • ½ cup of vegetables or fruit is about the size of your fist.
    • A medium apple is the size of a baseball.
    • A three-ounce portion of meat, fish or poultry is about the size of deck of cards.
    • A single-serving bagel is about the size of a hockey puck.
    • 1 ½ ounces of cheese is the size of a pair of dice.
    • One tablespoon of peanut butter is about the size of the tip of your thumb.
Choose Foods That Help Maintain a Healthy Weight
In addition to watching your portion sizes, substituting lower calorie foods for higher calorie foods can help influence what your scale says.

Cooking Tips
  • Use low-fat cooking methods like roasting, baking, broiling, steaming or poaching. Limit deep-fat frying and sautéing in a lot of oil, butter or margarine. Use a cooking spray, broth or water to sauté meats.
  • Substitute vegetables, fruits and other lower-calorie foods – lowfat dairy products, lean meats and cheeses, whole grains, and reduced sugar foods -  for calorie-dense foods such as French fries, cheeseburgers, pizza, ice cream, doughnuts and other sweets.

The Kardashians Again!!!

Khloé Kardashian stepped out sans wedding band on Friday as infidelity rumors continue to plague her husband Lamar Odom.
Kardashian was photographed leaving Equinox gym in Woodland Hills, California, and her 12.5-carat sparkler was noticeably absent. The 29-year-old has been photographed leaving the gym with her ring firmly on in times past.

"She didn't smile at all and People. "She seemed like she had a lot on her mind."
seemed miserable," a fellow gym-goer told
Odom, 33, and Kardashian have not specifically addressed the latest round of cheating allegations, although Khloé tweeted out a cryptic Instagram post this week.
"Never judge someone without knowing the whole story. You may think you understand but you don't," Kardashian shared on Wednesday. She added: “Stop trying to figure me out and get to know yourself first."
However, Lamar has stayed quiet on Twitter. When infidelity rumors first surfaced in early July, Odom denied they were true. He also tweeted:
Adding fuel to the splitsville fire is the fact Lamar has reportedly been staying at a hotel close to his Tarzana home he shares with Khloé. He was also noticeably absent at Kylie Jenner's huge sweet 16 bash last weekend.
Mama bear Kris Jenner denied divorce reports recently to E! News, although she didn't specifically address the cheating rumors.
"Khloé and Lamar are absolutely not getting divorced," she said. "There's been no talk of divorce."
Kardashian and Odom's fourth wedding anniversary is next month.

Celine Dion Puts Mansion on the Market for $72.5 Million

Celine Dion's residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas just goes on and on …
The "My Heart Will Go On" singer, 45, has recently singed a deal to extend her contract through 2019, so, according to the Wall Street Journal, she's decided to sell her Juniper Island, Florida, compound for a huge sum: $72.5 million.
Celine Dion (Franziska Krug/Getty Images)
But at least the 5.7-acre property has some features to justify that sky-high price tag. The main, Bahamia
n-style house is nearly 10,000 square feet with five bedrooms and connected bathrooms, a formal living room with vaulted ceilings, a media room, a guest wing, and an elevator. In the master suite, the walk-in closet has an automated carousel for shoes and a rack for clothing. (Doesn't every diva have one?) There's also a wraparound terrace with a deck that has a hot tub, and a second one with a fireplace.
Outside, the place is even more impressive! First and foremost, there's a water park, complete with two connecting pools, water gun stations, a lazy river with a bridge, and two slides, out front. There's also a pool out back, and more than 400 feet of beach on the Atlantic Ocean. In addition, there are tennis courts, a pool house, a beach house with a massage room, a tennis house with a simulated golf range, and an eight-bedroom guest house. Not too shabby!
Dion isn't hurting for money, but she stands to make quite a lot of it if she gets her asking price on the house. She reportedly bought the land for the home for $12.5 million in 2005, and an additional $7 million worth of adjacent property in 2008. Dion and husband René Angélil tore down the previous house on the property and built another, finished in 2010, to complete their temporary piece of paradise.

Loose 5kg in 5 days!

If you must loose 5kg in 5 days you must be disciplined.
I did this and it worked like magic. If you follow this tips; I must warn you, after 5days you might feel sick. That is because you have been off carbohydrates, which gives energy.

1. Eat only protein, No Carbs.
Beef, Chicken, Fish, Eggs (preferably Boiled Eggs), Beans.

2.  Don't eat anything after 5pm every evening.
The trick is not the time of the evening, the trick is to know how long it takes for your meal to digest.
For an average person, it takes 3 - 4 hours for food to digest. So always take your last meal of the day 4 hours before bed, that way your last meal will digest before you sleep.
Undigested meal causes protruding belly, and disfigures your body at the long run.

3. Take Fruits.
Whenever you feel peckish during the day; take fruits. Cleansing fruits like pineapple, water-melon, orange etc. Let this be your snack.
Other fruits like paw-paw, cumcumber, banana can be very filling; so you might need to avoid them for now.

4. Eat Vegetables.
Take lots of vegetables.

5. Stop sitting in one place for more than 3hours.
Take a walk every hour or climb the stairs. If you must go to a 5-floor building, take the stairs instead of the elevator. It helps and can suffice for your body activity for a day.

6. No Pastries.
Take fruits as snack. (Back to 3. above)

Healthy Eating.

Vegetables
People who eat fruit and vegetables as part of an overall healthy diet generally have a reduced risk of many chronic diseases.

Vegetables are important sources of many nutrients, including potassium, fiber, folate (folic acid) and vitamins A, E and C. Options like broccolispinach, tomatoes and garlic provide additional benefits!
Potassium may help to maintain healthy blood pressure. Dietary fiber from vegetables helps reduce blood cholesterol levels and may lower risk of heart disease.
Folate (folic acid) helps the body form healthy red blood cells. Women of childbearing age who may become pregnant and those in the first trimester of pregnancy need adequate folate to reduce the risk of neural tube defects and spina bifida during fetal development.

Eating Vegetables Provides Health Benefits

  • The nutrients in vegetables are vital for health and maintenance of your body.
  • Eating a diet rich in vegetables may reduce risk for stroke, cancer, heart diseases and type-2 diabetes.
  • One to four cups of vegetables are recommended each day, depending on how many calories you need. To find out how many vegetables you need to eat, take the Healthy Eating My Way quiz.

What's New and Beneficial about Extra Virgin Olive Oil

  • The quality of olive oil production—especially the stage of pressing—really does make a difference when it comes to health benefits. Recent studies have compared the anti-inflammatory benefits of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) obtained from the first pressing of the oil to the anti-inflammatory benefits of virgin olive oils (non-EVOO) obtained from later pressings. What researchers found was an ability of EVOO to lower inflammatory markers in the blood when non-EVOOs were unable to do so. (Study measurements included blood levels of thromboxane A2, or TXA2, and leukotriene B2, or LBT2.) This ability of extra virgin olive oil to help protect against unwanted inflammation is not surprising, since EVOO is known to contain stronger concentrations of phytonutrients (especially polyphenols) that have well-known anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Mediterranean Diet studies have long associated olive oil intake with decreased risk of heart disease. However, a recent group of studies has provided us with a fascinating explanation of olive oil's cardioprotective effect. One of the key polyphenols in olive oil—hydroxytyrosol (HT)—helps protect the cells that line our blood vessels from being damaged by overly reactive oxygen molecules. HT helps protect the blood vessel cells by triggering changes at a genetic level. The genetic changes triggered by HT help the blood vessel cells to enhance their antioxidant defense system. In other words, olive oil supports our blood vessels not only by providing antioxidants like like vitamin E and beta-carotene. Olive oil also provides our blood vessels with unique molecules like HT that actually work at a genetic level to help the cellular walls of the blood vessels remain strong.
